It had nothing on the events of Day 2 and I'm only 3 hours in. I received a phone call from the fertility clinic that my hematologist was suggesting that I be on the Lovanox (blood thinner shots) while I was on the birth control. I literally had a panic attack when she told me this. I'm not going back to Fargo until next Thursday (5/12). I freaked out that I was going to have to give myself the shots!
I called the PA at the cancer center and she informed me that the baby asprin I took would be OK until I got home.
My appointment schedule for 5/13:
8:00 am: Learn how to administer the Lovanox shot
8:30ish-9:00 am: Anesthesia consult. No appointment. Just drop in...oh joy!
9:30 am: Trial transfer
10 am: Take David back to work
10:55 am: Annual physical
I have to have someone sit at my house to accept the last batch of drugs because I won't be home to sign for them.
Lesson Learned: Do not plan to go anywhere the month before your IVF cycle.
Holy crap, gurrrl!
ReplyDeleteI had to give myself Lovenox shots when I got home from the hospital after my blood clots. Giving yourself a shot is a lot easier than you think it'll be. The Lovenox stings a bit, but it's doable.
The worst part of the shots is the bruising. My stomach was black and blue... and almost lumpy in the spots where the bruises occurred. Just be aware of all that. Oh, and the fact that if you start bleeding (I bled from the injection sites a couple of times), it's harder to stop. Keep lots of bandaids on hand!
When you look back on it, this will all be worth it in the end. I'm so excited for you!!!
I recommend not worrying about the whole shot thing. If strung out druggies who are shaking and can't remember their own name through withdrawals can do it then I'm sure you'll do fine.
ReplyDeleteIf you can't find someone to drug sit let me know, I have literally nothing better to do and sitting on my laptop at my house or yours makes no difference.

Erica-Thanks for the tips on the Lovanox...I'm worried about bleeding during the retrieval and the transfer. I bled SO badly with the saline sonogram. It was so awkward and embarrassing. I'm worried that they're not going to be able to stop it. Even when i go in for my annual physical I bleed really bad. Like for a week....Explain to me how this happens when I have a clotting disorder?
ReplyDeleteTim-Might just take you up on your offer! I'll Facebook you to let you know!
Congrats on starting your IVF journey! I'm a follower from the TCS Yahoo! Group. My husband and I have talked about looking into PDG when we want another child so I look forward to reading your experiences.
ReplyDeleteWishing you good luck!
